Q. Is excessive rainfall harmful to Safed Musli
crop?
If you are cultivating Safed Musli crop in sloppy land or land having well managed drainage than there is no need for worry. In general excessive watering at any stage of crop is harmful to crop. Few years back heavy rainfall destroyed this crop much in Indian state Chhattisgarh but farmers aware of improved Agronomical practices faced very less loss. I would like to mention that in forests of Chhattisgarh wild Safed Musli types having capacity to survive in waterlogged soil are present. There is need to develop new varieties having capacity to tolerate excessive watering with the help of these wild types.
